Revalidation Requirements Checklist

To successfully revalidate your NMC registration, you must complete several key requirements during your three-year period. These include:

  • Practice Hours: A minimum of 450 practice hours, or 900 if you are dual-registered as a nurse and midwife. This can include paid or voluntary work related to your nursing or midwifery skills.
  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD): You need 35 hours of CPD, with at least 20 hours from participatory learning activities relevant to your practice.
  • Practice-Related Feedback: Collect five pieces of feedback from patients, colleagues, or other professionals, focusing on your practice and the NMC Code.
  • Written Reflective Accounts: Write five reflective accounts (around 500 words each) based on your CPD or feedback.
  • Reflective Discussion: Conduct one reflective discussion with another NMC registrant about your reflective accounts.
  • Health and Character Declaration: Confirm your good health and character to practice safely.
  • Professional Indemnity Arrangement: Ensure you have the appropriate professional indemnity insurance.
  • Confirmation: Obtain confirmation from an NMC registrant who has been on the register for at least three years.

Revalidation Timeline

Begin collecting evidence as soon as you register or complete your last revalidation. This way, you will avoid last-minute stress. Key milestones include:

  • 60 Days Before: Log into your NMC Online account for a reminder of your upcoming deadline.
  • 30-60 Days Before: Finalize your reflective accounts, review all evidence, and schedule your reflective discussion.
  • 14-30 Days Before: Submit your portfolio to your confirmer for a review.
  • Before the Deadline: Submit your application through NMC Online and ensure all required documents are uploaded.
