What is NMC Revalidation?

1. Practice Hours
Nurses and Midwives: 450 hours over the last three years, with a minimum of 150 hours each year.

A minimum of 35 hours of CPD is required over three years. Out of these, at least 20 hours must involve participatory learning that is relevant to your practice.
3. Practice-Related Feedback
You need to gather feedback from patients, service users, or colleagues. This feedback can be formal or informal but must be documented and reflected upon.
4. Five Written Reflective Accounts
Each reflective account should be between 450-500 words, referencing The Code. They should cover different aspects of your practice, including CPD and feedback received.
5. Reflective Discussion
Engage in a reflective discussion with another registered NMC professional about your reflective accounts. Make sure this discussion is documented.
6. Health and Character Declaration
Affirm your good health and character by declaring any cautions or convictions, and confirm that you have professional indemnity arrangements in place.
For International Nurses
If you are working abroad, you can still maintain your UK registration. Your practice hours can be accrued from any country, and international training can be counted towards your CPD. Feedback can be obtained from your international colleagues, and reflective discussions can be conducted via video calls.
NMC Revalidation Timeline
- 60 days before your registration expires, the NMC will send you a renewal notice.
- Start early! Begin collecting your evidence at least 6 months prior to your expiry date.
- Complete your online application before the deadline.
- Ensure you receive your confirmer's signature to conclude the revalidation process.
