What is NMC Revalidation?
NMC revalidation is the mandatory process that all nurses and midwives must complete every three years to renew their registration. It's designed to demonstrate that you're maintaining your professional standards, keeping your skills current, and practising safely and effectively across the UK healthcare sector.

NMC Revalidation Timeline: When to Start
Begin collecting evidence at least 6-12 months before your revalidation date. This gives you plenty of time to gather feedback, complete CPD activities, and write thoughtful reflective accounts without the last-minute stress.
Common NMC Revalidation Mistakes to Avoid
- Leaving everything until the last minute
- Not keeping detailed records of practice hours and CPD
- Writing generic reflective accounts that don't demonstrate real learning
- Choosing an inappropriate confirmer
- Failing to link reflections back to the NMC Code
- Not allowing enough time for your confirmer to review your evidence
How to Find an NMC Revalidation Confirmer
Your confirmer must be another NMC registrant who has been on the register for at least three years. They can be a colleague, manager, or another healthcare professional you work with. Give them plenty of notice and ensure they understand their responsibilities.
NMC Revalidation Fees 2025
The current NMC revalidation fee is £120 for nurses and midwives. This must be paid when you submit your revalidation application through NMC Online. Ensure you budget for this cost in advance.
